High School Girls Team
Since reemerging in 2003, the high school girls’ team has made an impressive mark on the league. The growth of lacrosse in the state caused the Utah Lacrosse Association to split the girls teams into two divisions. After a strong showing in 2005 and 2006, finishing with a record of 8-0, the team moved into the top ranked Division 1. In 2007, the team welcomed Amy Hafets, as the new head coach of the varsity team with Lisa Peck aiding as the new assistant. In their first year in Division 1, the girls’ team showed their strength and poise against the tough competition. Beating many top-seated teams in overtime games, the team demonstrated their heart and determination by playing as a complete unit. In 2008, the team built upon their success from the previous year. Playing in the off-season and traveling to preseason tournaments, the girls boosted their level of commitment to the team. The increased commitment level leads the girls to an, 11-4 record and their first appearance in the state championship game. Losing a heart breaker of a battle in double overtime, the team is looking forward to rising to the top in 2009. The girls received honors and recognition for their fantastic efforts in 2008. Kasi Lemons and Traci Shurtleff made First Team All-State, and Hailey Brook and Ashley Reynolds made Second Team All-State. In addition, Kasi Lemons earned the Offensive MVP for Division 1, and All-American honors.
